The Film City in Chennai is situated towards south of Chennai in the Tharamani region. You can enter the Film City through the Canal Bank Road.
Film City in Chennai is named after the famous Tamil filmstar MG Ramchandran. You will be able to see MGR's films here besides some of the photographs capturing memorable incidents of his life. You can also see his letters, his identification card and some of the articles used by him like his glasses, cap and pen. The awards and medals received by him together with the Bharat Ratna are also displayed here. You can see the photographs of most of his films.
Film City in Chennai also has lavish sets for shooting. The complex includes artificial sceneries like waterfall, forest, markets where outdoor shooting can be carried on. MGR Film City also has all the modern and technological equipments that are necessary for making a film. The complex has large air-conditioned floors that are largest in Asia.
The complex is built and maintained by the Tamil Nadu Government. The state government who built the Film City mainly to help in the business of the Tamil film industry has recently shown green signal to Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) to built a knowledge park. The government will be providing TIDCO 24.78 acres of land for the project.
The rent of the studio is much low in comparison to others and this has made it the most popular location of Tamil films.
