The Deccan Chronicle is among the best circulated newspapers in Chennai (Madras). It is an English language newspaper published in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. The name, ‘The Deccan Chronicle’ originated from the place of its origin, the Deccan region. M.J. Akbar is the Editor-in-Chief of this newspaper.

The first publication of The Deccan Chronicle outside Andhra Pradesh started on the 28th of March, 2005 in Chennai. This newspaper has eight editions of which seven are published from different parts of Andhra Pradesh and one published from Chennai. Andhra Pradesh publishing locations are Vishakapatnam, Nellore, Karimnagar, Rajahmundhry, Secunderabad, Vijayawada and Anantapur.

As far as readership is concerned, The Deccan Chronicle ranks fourth in the list of English language newspapers. It also has an ABC circulation of 2.95 lakhs (295, 000) in Chennai. The main office of this newspaper is on Sarojini Devi Road, close to Hotel Basera and the ‘Clock Tower’ in Secunderabad.

The most interesting part in The Deccan Chronicle is its cartoons. This newspaper has two cartoonists, Sudhir Tailang and Subhani. Sudhir Tailang’s cartoons appear in the inside pages of the newspaper and the cartoons of Subhani appear on a daily basis on the front portion of The Deccan Chronicle, as Counterpoint. It also publishes articles from other newspapers like The Spectator and The New York Times.

There are various supplements of The Deccan Chronicle published along with the main newspaper. Some of the supplements are Hyderabad Chronicle (published daily), Sunday Chronicle (published on Sundays only), TV Guide (published on Saturdays) and Chennai Chronicle (published daily)

There are various weekly features in this newspaper. These are School Chronicle, Sunday Chronicle, DC Estate, Fashion, Lifestyle, ESQ, Cinema Cinema, TV Guide, Teen Chronicle, Wine and Dine and Shop.

The Deccan Chronicle is considered to be biased with its own set of agenda. At times, it excuses illegal activities if they are found to be linked with people from Congress party. The Chennai Chronicle which has a bond with us , creates a base for the local bloggers to be printed and published in the newspaper.
